CSU, PBS & Temple Grandin The World Needs All Kinds of Minds by: Mary Watterson, Fort Collins Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
 CSU is teaming up with Rocky Mountain PBS to put on yet another special documentary about our very own Temple Grandin. Ms. Grandin, the subject of the recent HBO biopic played by Claire Danes, is an esteemed, world-renowned professor at CSU.
Through her personal struggles with autism, Grandin's insights single-handedly ushered in humane practices for cattle and farm animals - turning the industry upside down. Simply put, Grandin's mind completely changed the mind of an entire industry.
The new documentary, entitled "Temple Grandin: The World Needs All Kinds of Minds," is set to air 4/15 @ 1:30 on Rocky Mountain PBS channels, just in time to mark National Autism Awareness Month in April. It can also be viewed after its debut by visiting www.colostate.edu/templegrandin.
Our hats off to Prof. Grandin for her tireless, humanitarian work in the field of education and animal welfare!

Alley Cats Bowling Night by Mary Watterson, Fort Collins Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Leave it to our friends at the Fort Collins Cat Rescue to come up with a fun way to support their mission!
Introducing Alley Cats Bowling Night 2012, a great evening of bowling, food, fun and prizes to benefit the Fort Collins Cat Rescue!
The fun begins at 5:00 pm on 4/15/2012 and includes all of the above, plus 3 games of bowling and the cost of your shoes - all for the low price of $22.00!
There is currently space for 24 teams of 6, or 144 people. Groups smaller than six will be partnered with other small groups or individuals - affording folks the great opportunity to meet others with similar interests.
The deadline to register is 4/14 and no sales can be taken at the door for this event. Register early to insure your support! Please be sure and have your bowlers' names and shoe sizes when registering. This will allow them to have the TV screens set up and your shoes waiting for you at your lane.

Temple Grandin: Guest Speaker by Mary Watterson, Fort Collins Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
This year's "Whiskers 'n Wags Jubilee," Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic's largest annual fundraising event, will feature CSU's very own Temple Grandin.
 Grandin became widely known and loved after the critically acclaimed biographical film "Temple Grandin," winner of seven Emmy awards and a Golden Globe, was released in 2010. The film featured Claie Danes who portrayed Grandin, a woman with autism who completely revolutionized practices for the humane handling of livestock. Grandin's work also earned her a place in Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World."
Grandin will discuss her recent book "Animals Make Us Human: Creating the Best Life for Animals." Animals Make Us Human is the culmination of almost thirty years of research, experimentation, and is being heralded as essential reading for anyone who's ever owned, cared for, or simply cared about an animal.

Pin-Ups for Pitbulls "Little Darling's" Crusade by Mary Watterson, Fort Collins Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
 A well-know pin-up model and burlesque performer, Deirdre Franklin, has made it big time in pit bull advocacy!
Franklin, who goes by the stage name of "Little Darling," launched Pinups for Pitbulls, a non profit, in 2006. They produce an annual calendar featuring like-minded models, dressed in vintage pin-up fashions, along side their pit bulls or dogs available for rescue.
The calendar has been a smash! Donations from Pinups for Pitbulls, benefiting rescues groups around the nation, total 80K thus far. Also included in the glossy, full-color calendar are lists of rescue groups and facts about all the various Pitbull breeds.
"I'd like people to celebrate dogs the right way and train dogs the right way so that everybody is happy and everybody is safe. That's my ultimate goal," says Franklin.

War Horse Spielberg Interview Tonight By: Mary Watterson, Fort Collins Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
So, there's been a lot of buzz about War Horse...everyone's clamoring for an inspirational hero. But among the buzz there's always the murmured hesitation, the question that dampens the excitement: But does the horse die? It is war after all - one of the bloodiest and most devastating ever. Many of us are not in the mood for some cathartic experience...just give us an uplifting movie...and some hot, buttered popcorn.
Well...I for one am watching Nightline tonight, to see what Steven Spielberg has to say about it. In fact, I just got a tweet from the Humane Society of America reminding me about it. With that, and Spielberg's own words, I'm cautiously optimistic that War Horse will be a great film.
"War Horse is not another Saving Private Ryan," says Oscar award-winning Spielberg. "I think this is a good film for families to see together," Spielberg
told ABC's Katie Couric. "I'm not saying little kids should see this
picture, but families can see this picture. They're accustomed with my
name associated with war, to expect the worst. They're not going get the
worst in this."
Well Mr. Spielberg...we're now expecting the best...
Can't wait for it's release!
